When news of Avery’s passing became public, an outpouring of support came in from his adoring fans – and former co-stars. Hearing the news, Alfonso Ribeiro tweeted that Avery “was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly.”
Smith added a tribute of his own, posting a photo of the last time the Fresh Prince’s principal cast met. He wrote that some of the greatest lessons he learned in acting – as well as life – came through Avery. “Every young man needs an Uncle Phil. Rest in Peace,” he concluded.
