While the role of Uncle Phil didn’t necessarily always had Avery stretching his acting chops, he certainly had them! A classically trained actor, he racked up over 175 acting credits to his name. He appeared (again as a judge) in L.A. Law, Dallas, and Night Court.
His biggest claim to fame – apart from the Fresh Prince, that is – came in a role you may not have even realized he played. For 106 episodes between 1987 and 1993, Avery provided the voice for the villainous Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
