On the third sample tested, the student had been told she was buying smoked Rainbow Trout, and this label was actually correct. However, this success didn’t last long, because the fourth sample then came back negative too.
The student believed he had been sold Rainbow Trout, however, the DNA test proved it wasn’t trout, but Coho Salmon instead. Each species of fish is remarkably different, in both their appearance and their taste, so how were the grocery stores getting the labels so wrong?
