Jennifer’s class completed the practical part of the study, but they had to wait for the results to be finalized. It was a long and apprehensive wait, and in the meantime, Jennifer taught them about the scandals and controversies that have been exposed over the years. These included the European horsemeat scandal, and also the fatal cases of allergens being mislabelled.
This was a serious matter, and one that’s often been overlooked. Jennifer wanted this to change. The experiments made the students realize how much of a problem food mislabelling can be. But what were the results going to show? Were the fish samples really going to come back as mislabelled? Or was Jennifer clutching at straws?
