The study from the University of Guelph suggests mislabelling can and does occur at any stage in the process, from the fisherman’s net to the dinner plate. Why is this? Well, it’s considered that fish is sometimes intentionally labeled wrongly so cheaper fish can actually be sold as more expensive fish in order to make a bigger profit.
