The main reason that the alleged affair had such an influence on Meg Ryan’s career is because of how the media presented it. They certainly painted her out to be the enemy, regardless of if she’d cheated on her husband or not.
Ryan didn’t appreciate the way the press talked about her, especially because she felt certain parts of her personal life were none of their business. Unfortunately, when you’re in the public eye, you have to accept that keeping things hidden from the media is easier said than done. Stuff like this always comes out eventually.
