Patrick Swayze was the epitome of heartthrob, with star-making roles in films such as The Outsiders, Dirty Dancing, and Ghost. In many of his roles, Swayze played a man willing to fight for what he believed in. Real life, however, confronted him with a battle even he couldn’t overcome.
In January 2008, the actor was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. A mere 20 months later, on September 14, 2009, he succumbed to his illness. This photo was taken about two weeks prior to his demise, as he was going shopping, and shows the ravages of the disease.
