Back in January 1986, the new kind of celebrity were those who were heading off into space. This is a picture of the crew heading toward the shuttle and boarding Challenger.
However, despite the smiles of everyone getting ready to board, it would prove to be a major disaster. Only 73 seconds into the launch, the O-ring on the right booster of the shuttle failed, resulting in the loss of everyone’s lives. It was a tragic historical moment.
