On January 8, 2020, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry dropped one of the biggest bombshells the Royal Family had seen in a while – announcing that they would be stepping back as senior royals. This news came as a shock to many, especially since the couple had only been married for less than two years and had just welcomed the birth of their first child, Archie, months prior.
To others, however, it wasn’t as shocking. Royal experts had been stating for months that Meghan was unhappy in her new royal life, likely as a result from her constantly getting criticized by the harsh media. On their Instagram announcement, the Sussexes stated their desire to become “financially independent” while balancing their time “between the United Kingdom and North America.”
On April 1, 2020, Meghan and Harry officially resigned from the Royal Family and stopped using their titles. They now are residing as ‘normal residents’ in an $18 million dollar mansion in Los Angeles. While their new life is certainly enviable, the couple had to give up many privileges after their royal departure. This is what they have lost, and how their lives have changed post-Megxit.

While Harry and Meghan are still considered the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they are no longer known as His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness.

These are exclusive titles that are only used within the Royal Family. Since their departure and move to LA, they prefer to be called by their first names anyways – so we assume they are not overly upset about losing their HRH titles, they do want to live a more private, normal life after all.
