Surprisingly, a large number of Disney movies feature a female lead suffering from Stockholm syndrome. Unsurprisingly, those movies are based on ages-old fairytales. Stockholm syndrome, for those unaware, is the psychological phenomenon of captives developing a bond with their captors that might border on love.

Beauty and the Beast’s probably the most extreme example, as Beast is quite literally the worst bull-dog-whatever monster ever, and Belle ends up falling in love with him for no other reason than spending an eternity trapped in a castle where he’s the only thing that isn’t a talking household object.
