To be absolutely fair, Cinderella’s one of the older Disney movies – dating back to 1950. To be even fairer, it’s based on a fairytale that’s even older than that – the earliest modern version dates back to 1697! Nevertheless, 300-year-old origin or no, we have to say the movie’s underlying message is… problematic.
Sure, Cindy’s a kind and gentle soul, but she’s also already gorgeous. It feels like the Fairy Godmother giving her that sweet ride and A-plus dress is just telling us that even beautiful people aren’t worth much without bling.
