Three heart monitor machines confirmed what they already knew: Eva was gone. Because the brain controls heart function, the infant’s heart gave out because her underdeveloped brain wasn’t able to keep it beating. Keri delivered her baby stillborn and wept as she held her lifeless body in her arms.
This meant two things, one that Royce and Keri would never be able to meet their daughter like they’d been hoping to for months, and two, that Eva wouldn’t be able to donate her organs because they were no longer viable. This wasn’t the end of the story, though.
