Now that the cast had been made ready for the gold, it was time to get the metal in a place where it could be added to the shape. The jeweler took the original metal shards of the ring and put them into a pot known as a ‘crucible’ so that heat could be added safely.
He also added some refined gold to the metal mixture. This is something that the jeweler does anytime he is trying to recreate a piece of jewelry using the original metal.
