Like with any good food mixture, the next thing to do is add heat, and it’s the same for making a cast of a ring. The rubber is removed from the flask, and the hard mixture put into an oven. This is called the ‘burnout cycle’ because the wax ring inside the mixture completely melts due to the heat from the oven.
This leaves the hollow shape in the middle of the investment mixture, and that’s where the gold will be poured in once that too is melted down.
