For the wax creation to be copied, the jeweler had to use what’s known as investment powder. The jeweler had to measure out exactly how much of the powder he was going to use to get the ring completely submerged in it.

If the mixture was too runny then it would take too long to set, but too dry and there would be imperfections on the surface of the ring. The man who destroyed the original wanted an exact copy, not a ‘good enough’ copy. Luckily for him, the jeweler was the consummate professional.
