Alaska is the last place one would expect absurd competitions. Among them is “The Wilderness Woman Contest” which is held annually in Talkeetna every first weekend of December. The famous competition attracts thousands of women from all over the state.
The winner is awarded a fur hut, a plaque, and a trip to Europe. They engage in different activities that change every year. In the past, contestants were required to haul firewood, catch fish, and harness a sled-dog team — true Alaskan spirit.
