Alaska is among the states where one cannot rely on the internet. It is slow and expensive. For this reason, the movie renting businesses thrived and lasted longer in Alaska than any other place in the world.

Until two years ago, Blockbusters had three branches in Alaska. Two shut down, and Bend Oregon is the only remaining branch. Most Alaskans did not fancy the move for Blockbusters were still prevalent in the region. Blockbuster stores were where most people went to rent out movies for watching during the weekends.
