The son of Jewish immigrants from Ukraine SFSR of the Soviet Union, the late Leonard Nimoy is most well known for his 50 years of acting as Spock in the Star Trek film series. Prior to his acting career, Nimoy enlisted in the army reserve in 1953.

He spent most of his 18 months of service in the Special Service, where he performed and entertained other fellow army men. While he did not gain much success initially, he eventually made it big in the film industry.
