Beatrice Arthur, more commonly known as Bea Arthur, started her career in comedy in 1947. However, prior to that, she was one of the pioneer members enlisted in the Marine Corps Women’s Reserve back in 1943, during the Second World War.
After the war in 1945 with the rank of staff sergeant, Arthur was honorably discharged. From there, she went on to pursue her career in comedy and eventually in the film industry as an actress.
