Charles and Diana’s love affair doesn’t actually begin with Charles and Diana. Instead, it begins with Charles and Lady Sarah Spencer, Diana’s older sister. The two dated, briefly, until Lady Sarah got a little too candid with the press. Besides laying bare her personal demons, she told reporters she wouldn’t marry Charles whether he was the garbage man or the King of England.
Suitably furious, Charles ended the relationship soon after. While they were still together, however, he visited Althorp House, the Spencers’ residence since 1508. There, he met 16-year-old Diana for the first time.
