[post_page_title]Fact check: Queen Elizabeth and Margaret Thatcher’s fraught relationship[/post_page_title]
Throughout the fourth season, Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher are portrayed as having an adversarial relationship. The Queen, we’re shown, looked down on the greengrocer’s daughter, while Thatcher didn’t have time or patience for the Royal Family’s endless protocol.

This might actually be true, as one book claims the two “met and disliked each other on sight,” proceeding to wage a quiet war against one another on the personal and political playing fields. To be fair, Thatcher denied any rift in her memoir, while the Queen attended her funeral – the first she’d gone to since Winston Churchill’s.
