[post_page_title]Fact check: Lord Mountbatten sending a letter to Charles about settling down[/post_page_title]
The fourth season opens on the relationship Lord Louis “Dickie” Mountbatten had with his great-nephew, Prince Charles. Despite being Prince Philip’s uncle, Dickie was like a grandfather to Charles, and they were reportedly extremely close. That’s portrayed faithfully, as is Mountbatten’s assassination by Irish extremists.

However, on the eve of his demise, he pens a letter to Charles advising him to find a “well-tempered girl with no past who will follow the rules.” There’s no evidence Mountbatten wrote such a letter at that time, but he IS infamous for advising Charles to “sow his wild oats” before settling down.
