If we were Prince Charles, we’d be pretty upset with our portrayal in The Crown. Shown to be simultaneously weak and ineffectual but also cruel and contemptuous, one moment in particular paints Charles as the ultimate villain.
After proposing, and that cringeworthy engagement interview, Charles is shown leaving for his personal residence almost immediately, ditching Diana and ostensibly scurrying off to meet Camilla. That couldn’t be farther from the truth, as Charles and Diana dined with the Queen Mother that evening. Charles didn’t leave for his Australia tour right after either – he flew more than a month after proposing.
