Throughout the season, Diana and Prince Philip are depicted as having a close, father-and-daughter relationship. While private conversations between Diana and Philip aren’t public record, it’s nearly indisputable the two were close – at least at first.
Recognizing an outsider, just like he was, Philip reportedly took Diana under his wing, going so far as teaching her the art of small talk at formal dinners. The two also exchanged letters in the ’90s, before Diana’s divorce, in which she affectionately called him “Pa.” Ultimately, though, their bond broke down as Philip remained loyal to the Crown.
