[post_page_title]Hoover’s airline ticket fiasco[/post_page_title]
In 1992, the British division of the Hoover Company came up with a brilliant idea. Wanting to get rid of excess inventory, they came up with a promotion – spend $128 on any Hoover product and get two free return flights to select European destinations.

For some reason, they then decided to expand the promotion to include U.S. destinations. The amount of people who tried getting free airline tickets could’ve filled 500 Boeing 747s. Hoover made $38 million in sales, but lost $64 million – and its good name – on the promotion.
