[post_page_title]The sinking lake[/post_page_title]

We have to be careful when we mess with nature, because it can cause disasters. In 1980, an oil rig drilling in Louisiana’s Lake Peigneur miscalculated and drilled too deep, damaging a salt mine underneath the lake.

The sinking lake

As the water flowed into the mine and dissolved the salt, it formed a sinkhole and a whirlpool ensued. The once six foot deep freshwater lake became a salt water lake with a maximum depth of 1,300 feet. Luckily, nobody was hurt even though there was a lot of property damage.
