In today’s technological world, we’ve all heard of Google, but we haven’t all heard of a company called Excite. That might not have been the case if search engine Excite hadn’t made an expensive mistake in 1999.
Google was willing to sell to Excite for a very low price – under one million dollars. Excite passed on the offer, however, and ended up being purchased by Ask Jeeves in 2004. Meanwhile, Google’s net worth increased dramatically, and the tech conglomerate is now worth nearly $500 billion.
