Is there anything better than a refreshing bottle of Snapple? Founded by three friends in 1972, they said they knew “as much about juice as about making an atom bomb.” Still, the drink was a success and the founders were bought out for an estimated $140 million in 1992.

Then, just two years later, the buyer sold the company himself to Quaker Oats for a whopping $1.7 billion. Stiff competition in the beverage market, however, forced Quaker to sell Snapple again three years later – for only $300 million.
