Former fan, Daniella Acevedo, posted on her Twitter that when she was 15, Ellen had posted a contest asking for fans to make a bust of her and send it in. Acevedo worked hard on creating her bust, and sent it to Ellen with a long letter. After receiving no response, a few weeks later she spotted her bust being used as a prop on the show, with $500 attached at the bottom that DeGeneres gave away to a random audience member.
