We had always assumed that all sponges were created equally. However, using the incorrect scouring pad could shorten the lifespan of your dishes.

The regular yellow sponges should be used for nonstick pans and aluminum pots, whilst the metal sponges should be used for stainless steel and cast iron skillets. If your sponge in overly abrasive, when it is used on ceramic or a non-stick coating, it could cause some of the material to have premature flaking.
