If you are trying to get that glasses gleaming and sparkling, using just regular rags and other standard cleaning supplies will be far more effective than trying to clean with a piece of newspaper.
Back in the day, newspapers were a lot thicker than the ones we have today, which did make them an effective material for cleaning glass. These days, however, the thin newspapers will deteriorate quickly when they become wet and leave behind newsprint spots.
