The insensitive comments made by the Queen’s husband, Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip, are sometimes referred to as ‘gaffes’, which isn’t entirely the right term, as he’s never given any sign that he’s said these things by accident or that he’s the least bit sorry.
He asked an Aboriginal Australian if his people were ‘still throwing spears’. He told a Filipino nurse “The Philippines must be half-empty as you’re all here running the NHS”. Philip ‘retired’ in 2017, and one can only assume the Palace press office breathed a sigh of relief.
