In between all the scandals about who wore what and who said what to whom, occasionally the great British press and public remembers to focus on the fact that the royals cost millions and millions of pounds every year.
One such occasion came in 2018 when – somewhat overshadowed by the Harry and Meghan wedding – Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank. The $2 million security costs were, as usual, picked up by the British taxpayer, which was more controversial than usual, because Eugenie isn’t even a ‘working’ royal.
