While there are the occasional examples of mammals without hair that are completely hairless being healthy, this is typically not the case. If you run across an animal without hair, you can usually assume that it has mange or something similar. This is an awful disease that really takes a toll on an animal.
Someone snapped this picture of a hairless fox running through their neighborhood, and people immediately began speculating as to why it might look like that. Mange was the most common answer. Let’s hope this poor animal got better after this was taken.
