The decision some had suspected for months, was finally announced on January 8th 2020. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke the controversial news they would be “stepping down” as senior royals, and work to become “financially independent”.
The couple said this decision had been made after months of careful reflection and internal discussions, and also said they would no longer live only in The UK, but also in North America. Everyone was confused – even the Royal Family. But looking back, all the signs were there.
