“It was an unfortunate time for us to work together”, is how Steven Spielberg diplomatically summed up working with Julia Roberts on Hook in 1991. Their deteriorating relationship was apparently not because of artistic differences, which is usually the main reason directors and actors butt heads, but due to Julia’s personal life.
Right before filming started, her engagement to Kiefer Sutherland was called off – just four days before the wedding. Naturally, she was struggling emotionally, and unfortunately took it out on everyone on set.
