Kruger National Park – South Africa
The big five are Cape buffalo, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and lions, and are often thought to be the highlight of heading out on safari in Africa. If you want to almost guarantee your chance to see them, then it might be time to add Kruger National Park to your bucket list. It’s thought most visitors will get to see all five of the animals within a couple of days of touring around the park by car, hot air balloon, or even horseback riding.
Galapagos Islands – Ecuador
These islands lay untouched by humans for so long that the animals were able to build an incredible ecosystem of their own. Now, the land is filled with vegetarian swimming iguanas, penguins, giant tortoises, and a whole lot more. The best bit? Most of the animals have no fear of humans meaning you’ll be able to get pretty up close and personal with nature, as well as taking a step back in time in the process.
Sea of Cortez – Mexico
Exotic animals aren’t just on land, they can also fill the seas, too. While a trip to the watery depths might not be everyone’s idea of a good time, the Sea of Cortez offers visitors the chance to take a closer look from the surface. Here, the sea is filled with the likes of sea lions, sea turtles, whales, rays, dolphins, and even sharks. Boats and kayaks are the best ways to take a closer look to the beauties that live under the water.
Rainforests of the Atsinanana – Madagascar
This island separated from the mainland more than 60 million years ago and has been building its own ecosystem ever since. Now, the Rainforests of Atsinanana are filled with all kinds of creatures, including ten species of lemur alone. As if that wasn’t enough, hiking through the land might even give visitors the chance to spot a humpback whale or two along the coastline.
The Shetland Islands – Scotland
These islands might not seem like the first place to go to see exotic animals, but they can be a step into the wild side for many while enjoying the peace of the island. Here, visitors should be lucky enough to see all kinds of birds, including puffins and the great skua, but that’s not all. The islands are also filled with the famous Shetland ponies, and with a bit of patience, you might even get to see an otter thanks to the largest population of the animals in Europe.
Traveling can have many benefits, and now it looks as though the best destinations to see exotic animals can offer up even more reasons to pack our bags and head abroad. We never knew there were so many wonderful creatures all around the world!
