[post_page_title]A third recognized gender[/post_page_title]
There is a term in India used by individuals who choose to identify themselves other than males or females. The word in question is Hijra. Interestingly enough, the rest of the world was slow out of the starting blocks when it came to accepting other genders.

The Hijras go back in history as far back as the Kāma Sūtra. It is believed that the famous book was written in the third century AD. In terms of legal recognition, the Supreme Court ruling was only made in April 2014, identifying the existence of the third gender in India.
