In the ancient religion of Mazdayasna, its practitioners are of the belief that fire and earth are hallowed. For this reason, both of these elements can be used as a medium for the dumping of bodies. As a result, a round, raised object was erected called the Dakhma.
The purpose thereof is to exhibit bodies to birds of prey to dispose of the corpses. India is not the only country with structures such as these but it’s the only country to still use them and where they are visible to the public.
