Unlike the custom in many other countries, India uses the color white – a sign of purity when they are in a state of mourning. People who have lost their life partner might wear predominantly white clothing for many years after their passing.
In India’s State of Rajasthan, a widower will typically wear a white turban, while widows will don a white saree. Most other countries use the color black. Therefore wearing white when mourning is unique to India.
