This is one of those “she can do it because she’s the main character of the franchise and can do anything” explanations.” Seriously, there’s no other way to explain how Bella was able to maintain self-control as a vampire when she catches the scent of a nearby human.
Especially considering the Cullens were worried about her having difficulty doing so. In typical Twilight fashion, no explanation was provided. Except, of course, the opening quote that was just mentioned. In fairness to Twilight, hundreds of other movies have done the same thing.
