This prank is a modern twist to one of the most classic pranks of all time. Basically, you call someone and ask them if their refrigerator is running. Most people would think you’re asking if it is operational or not, and would reply in the affirmative.
You say, “Well, then, you’d better go and get it.” It’s so old that we feel like people have been doing it ever since refrigerators became a common part of every household. The bit about it being an evil, sentient being is pretty neat though. Respect.
