Mothers are very overprotective of their child, and although this is good for their child, sometimes it results in misunderstandings due to them being overly worried about nothing. Even though teens are at school for a long time outside, that does not mean a plastic bag in their bags will contain substance.
This mother was overly worried about her child for this, to the point she did not want to reveal to herself what was in the bag. Imagine her reaction when she realized it was just a bag of pretzels.
