Honestly, the reason we find this roast so painful is barely anything to do with whether or not it’s harsh. Sure, the joke about this person’s gums is pretty savage – but it’s made all the worse by the traumatic memories of high school that it’s evoked.
We don’t know about you, but we weren’t exactly keen to viscerally relive the experience of having our hand brush against the underside of a desk and discovering that it’s more gum than wood. Some things are just too harsh.
