For our money, the best kind of horror is deeply rooted in real life. Sure, the Nightmare on Elm Street movies are scary, but they won’t really be keeping you up at night, because you know deep down that Freddy Krueger isn’t – and couldn’t be – real.
Other movies, however, like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, are loosely based on actual events (do yourself a favor and don’t look up how). This story is also based on fact – that twitch is called the hypnic jerk, and it’s not caused by anything supernatural… as far as we know.
