Woman who lost memory starts dating husband all over again

Finding the person you want to be with most in the world is wonderful, but being with them for the rest of your life is the real adventure. One couple got married the same year they met, but they would go through one of the toughest times they had ever seen.

Falling in love

The couple met in 2016 and fell in love so much they decided they didn’t want to wait long before they got married. Brayden Faganello adored everything about Laura and didn’t want to waste any time without knowing it was going to be ‘forever’.

Falling in love

So, Brayden got down on one knee and proposed to the woman he wanted to be with forever. He wasn’t too nervous, because he almost knew she was going to say yes. Thankfully, he was right.

Everything was bliss

Laura accepted, thrilled to know that the man she adored felt precisely the same way. They were married the very same year and enjoyed every moment they could together. However, it wasn’t going to last forever, as the couple had no idea that a freak accident would bring a whole load of tragedy their way.

Everything was bliss

Of course, no one has any idea when they’re going to be faced with hardship. We all know it’s coming at some point, but where, how, or when will always be a mystery.

They lost everything

Laura was helping set up for a large event when the accident happened. She wasn’t doing anything crazy or dangerous, she was simply sorting out the table decorations when she heard a loud gasp. The next thing she knew, she had woken up in the hospital with a severe head injury.

They lost everything

Almost everyone knows that head injuries are always to be taken seriously, even the ones that seemed small. However, the head injury that Laura had suffered was neither minor nor trivial, and it would change their lives forever.

She didn’t know who Brayden was

Her memories had gone. All she knew was that she thought she was 17 years old, and there was an unfamiliar man in front of her claiming to be her husband. Thankfully, she didn’t shy away from him totally, and was open and willing to learn more about their relationship.

She didn’t know who Brayden was

Laura explains how Brayden was a ‘little rough around the edges’ at first, but who could blame him? He had just learned that the horrific accident had wiped all of his wife’s memories of him!

Laura had to relearn everything

Laura had other things to worry about following her accident, which was tough on both of them. She had to struggle through relearning how to read, write, and speak properly. She was in constant pain as a result of her injury, and had to work through variations of short and long term memory loss.

Laura had to relearn everything

It was not easy, and it wasn’t getting easier. Both of them had hoped that, over time, she would somehow regain her lost memories, and save their marriage.

Laura had to make a choice

They both knew that something had to happen, Brayden had all of his memories and still loved his wife, even if she didn’t love him back. Laura had to make a choice about what she wanted. So she did.

Laura had to make a choice

She knew she couldn’t give her everything to a man she didn’t know, and she knew she couldn’t invest in a marriage she hadn’t chosen, not within her memories anyway. So she took off her rings and turned to Brayden and requested that they started dating instead.

They fell in love all over again

The couple fell in love all over again. First they became friends, then Laura began developing a crush on him, and before long, she had fallen in love with her husband. It must have been strange for Brayden, but he was thrilled it was working out.

They fell in love all over again

Laura then wrote, one day, that Brayden had chosen to propose to her a second time, even if it was the first time within Laura’s memory. Everyone was overwhelmed with the news that the couple managed to make it through such traumatic times.

It all started with some letters

Laura and Brayden have one of the most romantic stories out there. Laura had recently moved, and her brother felt as if Brayden would be a good match for her. However, at the time, she had other things on her mind, like focusing on her studies.

It all started with some letters

Laura’s brother had suggested writing a letter, which she eventually got around to on a whim. One day, she received a letter back, and it happened to be on her birthday. The letter had Laura laughing so much that she decided to write back.

A long-distance romance

The two exchanged nothing but letters over the course of eight months. They didn’t exchange numbers or talk over the phone, they simply sent letters. Eventually, they both moved back to Victoria, Canada. Brayden had been on a church mission in South Africa, and Laura had been at college.

A long-distance romance

When they finally met, there was nothing anyone could do to separate them. They began dating in January, and were head-over-heels in love by the next month. Brayden knew she was the one for him and popped the question in April.

Then tragedy struck

They had been married on July 15, 2016, and it wasn’t long after that tragedy would strike the loving, young newlyweds. Laura had been asked to help set up a large event by a family friend who was running an events company.

Then tragedy struck

The weather was intense, and people were struggling to put up the large event tents in the severe wind. Three women were attempting to put up a large, heavy support pole, but were seriously struggling. Laura heard a gasp, and she looked up to see the pole come crashing toward her.

She woke up

Laura can’t recall the first day she woke up. It was explained to her that she had woken up terrified and in pain many times, unable to recall the previous time. One she did recall, when Brayden had their wedding album next to him, and regarded her calmly.

She woke up

She then describes how she spent the next two years in unbearable and inexplicable pain. The accident had affected her spine, causing Laura to suffer from agonizing back spasms and headaches. She describes the pain as ‘tear-jerking’ and ‘white-knuckling’.

She had to quit university

Laura had to come to terms with a lot of things, like having to quit college because she was still learning to properly read and write coherently. Whenever she went to the doctors, they would disregard her pain and memory loss for a concussion, sending her on her way.

She had to quit university

They didn’t have the money for the proper medical treatment she needed, so she went on having to come to terms with everything on her own. Brayden tried helping her in any way he could, and was also coming to terms with it himself.

She wanted to leave

Laura woke up every morning, sometimes thinking she was 17 again and having to be reminded of everything that had happened since the accident. Sometimes she was just crying that she wanted to go back home to her parents.

She wanted to leave

She stuck with living alongside Brayden, feeling as if it was the right thing to do, however it became clear that things were going to have to change. She eventually regained a few memories here and there, but that didn’t come attached to any feelings for Brayden.

She took up wedding photography

Laura had to work somehow, as they were struggling on a single income, but Laura was struggling with her recovery. Brayden had explained that before the accident, they had dreamed of having a photography and videography business.

She took up wedding photography

Laura got stuck in, working on the business and project with all her energy. It was difficult, for every fifteen minutes of work she could do, she had to have three hours of a break because the pain would be too intense. She didn’t give up.

She went back to college

She decided she wasn’t going to let her disability defeat her. Despite the fact she studied for more than ten hours for a test, she was unable to do it properly as she was struggling to read the words on the spinning page. It was distressing, but every test she completed was a huge win for her.

She went back to college

However, as she was tackling everything else in her life, she also had something else she needed to focus on, and that was her husband.

She wanted to make it work

She was starting to notice things about Brayden. She saw how fun and ‘quirky’ he was, and loved the way he treated her. She noticed how kind and gentle he was when he approached her. She walked up to him while he was working on some editing and said that she wanted to date him again.

She wanted to make it work

He didn’t seem to take her seriously at first because he already had all his memories of getting to know her, so the prospect seemed kind of strange to him.

It took some time

It took some time for Brayden to really understand what she needed from him, but she took the lead and started organizing dates for them to go on. She suggested that they went mini-golfing, and he obliged. She said that by the third hole the couple was laughing so hard it was tough to breathe.

It took some time

They then started going on long drives together, talking, and discussing things. They would binge watch TV shows together while she would ask him questions about himself. She was getting to know her husband.

He would read to her

She really struggled reading, so at night, or in their downtime together, he would read to her. In the mornings, he would write her sweet notes and leave them for her to find. These gestures meant everything to Laura, as it made her days easier to get through.

He would read to her

One day, she realized that she missed him whenever he left to go to work. She felt as if she had become a giggling schoolgirl, telling everyone how amazing Braydon was since she had developed an enormous crush on her husband.

She couldn’t remember their wedding

It’s so important that a couple gets to remember their engagement and wedding. They are moments many people look forward to experiencing, and Laura had become upset because she’d already had those things, but could barely remember them.

She couldn’t remember their wedding

Braydon knew this, and planned to propose to her. He had written and prepared three letters decorated like the ones they used to send to each other. In the first, he described how he loved her. He then took her to the spot where he first proposed.

The proposal

Braydon then opened up the second letter and described all of the tough and troubling times they had gone through. It detailed how he was happy that they had gotten through them, and that they did it together.

The proposal

They then left and went to where they had their first date. He read out the third letter, which was about the future they have together, and all the hopes and wishes he had for them. Braydon got down on one knee and proposed. Through the tears, Laura accepted.

Love is a choice

Laura has since explained how she believes that love is a choice, and she chose to love her husband, Braydon. She describes how they both have, and they’ve done it together. The love Braydon has for his wife is unconditional, even when he knew she didn’t love him.

Love is a choice

She never regained all of her memories, and what she did have was broken and meager. However, instead of relying on old feelings and memories, together they forged new ones.

A blessing in disguise

Laura explains how her husband has the ability to always see the positive side of a situation. Despite everything they had been through, he stuck by her side, and they decided to see it as a blessing in disguise.

A blessing in disguise

They had the opportunity to fall in love all over again, to become engaged again, and to be married again. Times were tough, but Laura could count on her husband every step of the way. It showed them both how they really were meant to be together.
